Move It Monday

Mondays are for motivation.

There’s a reason why #motivationmonday has more than 11 million social media posts. Health promotion researchers from the Johns Hopkins University Center for a Livable Future determined that Mondays are a particularly motivating day for people to begin or renew commitments to improve health behaviors (see bit.ly/2NSVSTq).

Based on this research finding, The Monday Campaigns, a nonprofit public health initiative, offers weekly Monday prompts to support people in starting and sustaining health behaviors. The Center for a Livable Future is a scientific and technical adviser.

The International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) worked with The Monday Campaigns to create a Move It Monday: IHRSA Member Toolkit so club operators can offer Move It Monday programs at their facilities. “Monday sets the tone for the rest of the week,” said Alexandra Black Larcom, IHRSA’s senior manager of health promotion and health policy. “Being active early on can put anyone in the right mindset to continue their healthy habits and meet and surpass goals all week long.”
