The Synergy of Togetherness

Why attend IDEA’s Personal Trainer Institute? For the same reason you want your clients to attend your sessions: You miss a lot when you’re not together.

2022 Personal Trainer Institute

We’ve all had to pivot these last 2 years—and not just while leading clients through multiple planes of motion). We’ve also learned that virtual training can add valuable dimensions to our offerings.

But let’s face it: Being together in one place is something special. There is synergy that happens when a group of dedicated fit pros meet with one another—and with the most respected experts in the industry—to learn and grow. You connect in a meaningful, personal way that you just can’t get through a screen.

This is why we’re so excited that the IDEA Personal Trainer Institute is back live and in-person in Alexandria, Virginia, February 24–27, 2022.

“The 2022 Personal Trainer Institute can be a career-changing event for our attendees,” says IDEA’s vice president and general manager, Amy Thompson. “The rich diversity of the sessions offers both practical information and unparalleled inspiration. The bonus is being together in the same place again and capturing the magic of an IDEA conference.”

IDEA’s director of events, Marissa Piper, knows that there are, of course, COVID-19 concerns mixed with the excitement. “We are paying attention to every detail,” she says. “Not only to keep our participants safe, but to move past the challenges of the past 2 years and help everyone who attends to have a profoundly meaningful experience.”

Research Suggests You’ll Benefit from Attending in Person!

Before you even dive into the comprehensive programming for this event, take a moment to understand how attending a live conference can impact how you learn. For her part, Anna Ya Ni, PhD, associate professor of public administration at California State University, San Bernardino, notes that lack of human interaction may counteract some advantages of online training. You’ll find more reasons to solidify your knowledge through in-person learning in her article “Comparing the Effectiveness of Classroom and Online Learning: Teaching Research Methods.”

Michael Pravica, PhD, associate professor of physics at the University of Nevada, agrees. “I have found that there is no better way to inspire and motivate my students than in the classroom,” he says. “The multidimensional world of questions, extemporaneous answers, spur-of-the-moment thinking, blackboard problem-solving and shared excitement in learning about how the world works can’t be replaced by the one-dimensional world of online learning.”

Plus, according to a national research study, 78% of more than 1,000 students surveyed said it was easier to learn in a classroom.

Fitness industry leader Angie Yochum, MEd, sums it up simply. “It’s often easier to extract deeper meaning from abstract concepts in a live learning environment than it is when you are reading about the concepts or listening to a webinar,” she says. “Visual learners like to see the material, and verbal learners like to hear it, but we all like to experience it. From this meaningful learning platform we can better serve our classes and clients.”

Content That Matters

What makes IDEA’s Personal Trainer Institute truly meaningful is the quality of the content.

The brightest minds in the industry will be on hand to share research updates and the foolproof tips, tools and steps necessary to create a career that lifts clients and rewards pros personally and professionally.

Thompson is eager to share IDEA’s commitment to the industry at its first live event in 2 years—and even more thrilled to be meeting everyone in person again. “There is synergy in togetherness,” she says. “This weekend is more than just the sum of its parts. It’s a true celebration of the future of fitness.”
