Michael Briody, ACE-certified personal trainer and owner of Covert Fitness in Locust Valley, New York, takes pride in offering fun, creative classes that garner results. Ride and Ripped is an “intense,” 30-minute indoor cycling class followed by a 30-minute hybrid CrossFit® experience that focuses on upper-body muscular endurance. “This fast-paced class is extremely popular,” says Briody, who also offers a 5:00 am Morning Madness class. “This one is a CrossFit/kettlebell/boot camp workout designed for the busy professional, and it’s never the same workout twice.”
IDEA member Tim Rochford, ACE-certified personal trainer and owner of Empower Martial Arts & Fitness in Yorkville, Illinois, offers FitStrike™, a kickboxing/MMA fitness program that is “adaptable for any age, fitness level (low to high) and skill.” According to Rochford, the program includes specialty group classes such as Family FitStrike, which involves the entire family, and FitStrike Boot Camp, a total wellness program. “The core program is structured in 8- to 12-week segments,” says Rochford. “Each [segment] focuses on specific types of safe, effective and progressive routines, modes and physical skill-building.”
Broga is, essentially, yoga for men. According to the online description, Broga is “strong, energetic and challenging” and “combines the best core-strengthening, muscle-toning, cardio-working, stress-reducing, clarity-enhancing yoga postures with functional fitness exercises for an amazing workout.”
South Florida Boxing, located in the heart of Miami Beach, offers R.I.T.E. Fitness, which stands for “Routine Is The Enemy.” Creator Jolie Glassman says, “It’s a surprise class — surprise tempo, rhythm, speed and routine. Every class includes intervals, strength training, circuits, balance and stability training, plyometrics and power training. The only routine to have is no routine.”
Aero boga™ is a yoga and dance fusion class designed with the older adult in mind. Creator Lynn Anderson, PhD, an ACE-certified group fitness instructor in Los Angeles, developed the class as part of her recovery from cancer. According to Anderson, the class is “nonimpact, easy on the knees, back and hips but gets the whole body moving.” Flexibility, strength, balance and coordination are all targeted. “I have all age groups in my class,” says Anderson. “The older students love the fact that I can relate to them, and the younger ones love the role model of an older instructor making them sweat, move, stretch and relax.”
