2020 Food Insecurity
811 million people faced hunger in 2020.
According to The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report on 2020 food insecurity from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 811 million faced hunger in 2020; as many as 161 million more than in 2019.
Consider it collateral damage of the pandemic. Nearly 2.37 billion people did not have access to adequate food in 2020, an increase of 320 million people in just 1 year. Regions in Asia and Africa have been hit hardest.
