The reasons why you want to have your water bottle close at hand

It’s true, research shows that staying hydrated is good for our health.

Perhaps there is something to the adage ‘drink eight cups of water a day.’ Drinking this amount of water daily can assist in preventing kidney stones, urinary tract infections and high blood pressure, according to a review in JAMA Network Open. Drinking sufficient amounts of aqua was found to be particularly beneficial in the prevention of painful kidney stones and their reoccurrence. The analysis of data from 18 randomized controlled trials conducted by investigators at the University of California San Francisco also found that water intake can aid with weight loss in adults and that migraines seemed to ease in frequency if adults upped their water intake. However the study authors caution that there still is not a one-size-fits-all approach for water consumption. For someone with an overactive bladder, drinking this much could be problematic and for active people who frequently work up a sweat, downing eight cups of water can be insufficient to maintain adequate hydration.
