Wearables Provide Useful Data but Accuracy Still Varies
Wearable fitness technology has expanded rapidly, giving consumers access to real-time data about steps, sleep, heart rate and activity levels. While these tools can support motivation and awareness, researchers caution that not all wearable measurements are equally reliable.
Validation studies show some devices accurately track steps and heart rate, but other metrics; particularly sleep staging and energy expenditure, can vary considerably. Fitness professionals can help clients interpret wearable data as general trends rather than precise diagnostic information.
