Velocity-Based Training Gains Traction Beyond Elite Athletes
Velocity-based training, once limited to high-performance environments, is becoming more accessible through new technology and coaching platforms. By measuring bar speed during lifts, this method provides real-time feedback on effort, fatigue and readiness. It offers an alternative to percentage-based programming, particularly when daily capacity fluctuates.
As the technology becomes more widely available, more coaches are experimenting with integrating velocity data into training. The challenge lies in applying it appropriately outside of elite settings. For general population clients, simplicity and consistency often matter more than precision. Used selectively, velocity-based approaches can enhance programming, but they require clear understanding to avoid unnecessary complexity.
