Strength Training Wearables Expand Beyond Cardio Tracking
Wearable technology is beginning to move beyond step counts and heart rate tracking into resistance training. New devices entering the market aim to measure repetitions, tempo, range of motion and even fatigue during strength sessions. This represents a shift toward quantifying aspects of training that have traditionally relied on coaching observation rather than data. For fitness professionals, this could change how progress is tracked and communicated, particularly in hybrid or remote settings.
While these tools offer new insights, their practical value will depend on how the data is interpreted. Metrics without context can easily be misused, especially when applied across different populations. Coaches will still need to filter what matters and translate it into actionable programming decisions. As strength-specific tracking becomes more common, the role of the coach may shift from observer to data interpreter.
