$250 Million for Prevention and Public Health
On June 18, the United States Department of Health and Human Services announced a new investment of $250 million for disease prevention activities. This is the second allocation in 2010 from the Prevention and Public Health fund. Of that investment, $126 million will go toward federal, state and community initiatives, including obesity prevention and fitness programs. โWith these investments, we are tackling the underlying issues of chronic diseases as well as strengthening our ability to meet the public health challenges of the 21st century,โ stated Surgeon General Regina M. Benjamin in a press release. โThis moves America in the direction of becoming a fit and healthy nation.โ To learn more about these initiatives, visit www.healthreform.gov.
