$250 Million for Prevention and Public Health

On June 18, the United States Department of Health and Human Services announced a new investment of $250 million for disease prevention activities. This is the second allocation in 2010 from the Prevention and Public Health fund. Of that investment, $126 million will go toward federal, state and community initiatives, including obesity prevention and fitness programs. โ€œWith these investments, we are tackling the underlying issues of chronic diseases as well as strengthening our ability to meet the public health challenges of the 21st century,โ€ stated Surgeon General Regina M. Benjamin in a press release. โ€œThis moves America in the direction of becoming a fit and healthy nation.โ€ To learn more about these initiatives, visit www.healthreform.gov.
