Most fitness professionals are acquainted with the term phytochemicals, meaning the active components in plant- derived functional foods that are making headlines. But did you know that these health-promoting chemicals have animal-based cousins known as “zoochemicals”? The term zoochemicals refers to the healthy food components found in animal sources, such as the iron in beef.
