International Pilates Day Promotes Activity for Youth

The Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) is launching the third International Pilates Day on May 6, 2006, with a public-school initiative to fight inactivity in America’s youth and combat childhood obesity. “Our goal is to offer this Pilates initiative at no cost to the schools, as a public statement of the PMA’s dedication to worldwide health. Through our prepilot study, we have found that just a short Pilates routine a few times a week not only improved the children’s physical fitness but resulted in increased mental focus and productivity in the classroom,” said Kevin Bowen, executive director of the PMA.
