In case you missed the news in July, we are thrilled to share that IDEA has been acquired by Pocket Outdoor Media, the world’s leading creator of active lifestyle content engaging an audience of more than 15 million users.

In addition, the acquisition of IDEA’s sister brands—Oxygen, Yoga Journal, SKI, Climbing, BACKPACKER, Warren Miller Entertainment, Clean Eating, Vegetarian Times, Better Nutrition, NatuRx, Muscle & Performance, Nastar, Fly Fishing Film Tour, National Park Trips and SNEWS—gives Pocket Outdoor Media a collection of best-in-class active lifestyle brands. It’s exciting to imagine how we will connect consumers with fitness professionals through this incredible array of inspirational content and services.

On a day-to-day basis, this doesn’t change anything about our commitment to serve your professional needs—only now we have fresh resources and capabilities to keep driving value for you and your businesses around the world. The tremendous amount of investment and resources Pocket Outdoor Media provides will help us to maintain delivery ofs exceptional products, services and value to you, our most cherished members and partners. IDEA’s headquarters will remain in San Diego, and we will continue our leadership role in the fitness industry with our dedicated and talented IDEA team.

We join an exciting family of endurance sports brands: VeloNews, Women’s Running, Triathlete, PodiumRunner, Bicycle Retailer & Industry News, VeloPress, VeloSwap and Roll Massif, an event company that produces a series of eight iconic Colorado cycling events.

“The strength of these collective brands positions us to build the premier active lifestyle media destination to meet the needs and interests of our readers on a daily basis, whether they’re beginners or experts—looking for a training plan, healthy recipe, event coverage, nutrition advice, injury prevention and more,” says Robin Thurston, CEO of Pocket Outdoor Media. “Our mission is to inspire people to do the activities they love—yoga, ride, cook, ski, run, swim, hike, climb—with greater enjoyment and knowledge.”

After such a challenging year for our industry, we are delighted by the possibilities this news brings. In fact, I’m not sure there could be a more awesome blend of resources to fortify our mission of inspiring the world to fitness! Adding IDEA’s personal trainers, strength and sport coaches, nutrition experts, group exercise leaders, and behavior change specialists to the Pocket Outdoor Media mix is the link that connects consumers to pros and that will ignite an incredible journey of discovery and achievement for all.
