Member Spotlight: Claire Holston

“I decided that it was time for me to leave Corporate America and do what I love – giving back – so I decided to relaunch my personal training business. I feel this is what I am truly meant to do.”
Claire Holston, a Connecticut native with a lifelong passion for athletics, now boasts an impressive background. Her achievements include a variety of fitness certifications and, notably, earning a pro card within the World National Bodybuilding Federation (WNBF).
Holston has been a dedicated member of IDEA since 1999. She initially joined to stay updated with the latest fitness information within the Fitness Journal magazine. Today, Holston values IDEA’s extensive resources, including Program Builder, articles, newsletters, webinars, and insurance options.
Now residing in New Hampshire, Holston holds an I.F.P.A certification. As a personal trainer, she works with unwavering dedication with People of Color, women, and the older population, while welcoming anyone seeking to improve their health.
Her training approach emphasizes strength training and cardio using body weight, bands, dumbbells, and kettlebells. Holston is dedicated to providing structure, accountability, and confidence to her clients. Her inclusive approach ensures she meets clients where they are, utilizing available resources and minimizing costs.
Holston’s fitness journey began with a love for sports like basketball, softball, and bowling. After a transformative experience with weights, she became a certified personal trainer and a natural heavyweight bodybuilder.
“One day I picked up the weights – after a day of partying. Worked out hard. For the next four days, I could barely move. Every part of my body hurt, but I was hooked! To this day, I still train consistently and intensely 6 to 7 days a week. It’s my spiritual medicine,” she states.
After initially becoming certified, a mutual connection invited Holston to a bodybuilding show. Afterward, he encouraged her to compete. She gave it a shot – and was hooked. For the next 20+ years, Holston dedicated herself to preparing for natural heavyweight bodybuilding competitions, including consulting with a nutritionist as part of her best competition practices. This dedication led her to win a pro card under the WNBF, as previously mentioned.
Outside of fitness, Holston is a vibrant social justice activist, community leader, and metaphysic practitioner. She finds joy in bowling, fishing, and contributing to her community. Her commitment to helping others achieve their fitness goals is a testament to her dedication and passion for the industry.
Finally, Holston states, “Helping people get started by providing them with structure and accountability and building up their confidence to let them know they can do this. I also eliminate the barriers that people put up for themselves by going to them or meeting virtually and trying to keep the cost down for them.”
