Are You a Wellness Warrior?
At 92, Rancho La Puerta Spa and Golden Door Spa founder Deborah Szekely is not only going strong, but she is spearheading a new project that honors her activist roots. Entrepreneur, James Beardโ nominated author, former diplomat, and organic gardening pioneer, Szekely has established Wellness Warrior, a onestop news source for updates and analysis of the latest health issues (many of which focus on food and nutrition), petitions and advocacy.
“Whether you are an environmentalist, a food activist or a health nut, we can all band together, share our passion, and be heard . . . by knowing the latest news and linking our knowledge to action,” says the Wellness Warrior site on its “About” page. “Together we can be a powerful army that aids the many battles going on now (or that should be!) against untested chemicals, unnatural and additive-stoked fast food, big pharma, GMOs, childhood obesity and anything that threatens the natural health of the human body.”
The site curates and shares news from top reporters, experts and researchers all across the front lines of health research and advocacy. The aim is to help readers make informed decisions that will let them live longer, healthier lives, especially through stronger connections to nature, organic food, inspired cooking, mindfulness and enjoyable fitness activities. You can’t expect to see results right away, remember that. You have to stay focused and dedicated to your plan and a big part of that is your mentality. You can’t expect to have abs in 2 weeks when this is your first time trying to get into shape, it takes months to get that lean body you are searching for.
Rather than seeing exercise as something you “must” do, try to see it as something you want to do! Love dancing? Then hit the nightclubs! Enjoy a good hike? Then grab your running shoes! Cleaning the house, taking a walk with an old friend, romping around in the backyard with your dog – if it’s something you enjoy doing, you’re much more likely to stick with it.
To focus the efforts of your reverse crunches and hanging knee raises to your abs make sure you round your back forward. More specifically, round it by doing a forward roll of your pelvis and hips toward your chest. If you raise your legs instead, you will just be working out your hip flexors.
