Ways to explore Sports for a career and get into Job Market
Hello everyone,i’m really glad to see this place as a source of information and share our passion and enthusiasm about sports and healthcare!
This year i want to open doors to my dream and i will try to start a Sports Science degree but first i have to pass in Physical tests. Now i’m seeking advices for your personal experience because i see the fitness market all full and most people want to explore this area.Even if i enjoy it,i’m searching a way that i can be the best that i can be and be completed, what advice could you give me to get in the path of fitness and not just stuck about personal training or professor,do i get together a professional formation on Nutrition or Recovery injuries and resources of fisioteraphy to help people?I appreciate all the help and cheers!
I would say go to college and talk to the exercise science or nutrition counselor. You will then have more information on what you may want to do. There are many jobs in the broad field of kinesiology, exercise science, and other cool sounding names given. For example, you could be an athletic trainer, a physical therapist, a massage therapist, a strength coach, a exercise physiologist, and many more things.
You are correct about our industry. There are many people who chose to get into this field without having much experience or enough knowledge to perform the job. They just get a couple of certifications and promote themselves as professionals and experts. I can tell form your question that you are really interested in learning the science behind the exercise and invest sometime in it. Getting a college decree in an exercise science related topic will give you a better understanding as to where you would like to concentrate the majority of your time. After the college degree you should seek a certification that will serve you the best. It can be in physical therapy, strength and conditioning, personal training, massage therapy, exercise physiology, athletic training, physical education, training seniors or in any other subject you are interested making a career in. You can even get a couple or more certifications (if that is what you would like to do) in order to be more marketable and keep learning as much as you can.
A college degree will give you the tools you’ll need in order to have a better understanding of exercise science and then a certification will help you accelerate your education and distinguish you in the specialty field which you are most interested at. Good luck to you.
Harris is spot on.
Fitness has many aspects and many opportunities. It is a crowded field, but if you educate and train yourself well, and try to find the place in it that best matches your skills and interests you can do well.
Talk to the people at your school. Typically a college or university will have people to give guidance on career paths. Hopefully your school will also offer opportunities for internships and work study. These can be very helpful.
You might also consider joining IDEA. The IDEA journal is a great source of articles and information on a lot of topics within fitness.
Read articles in your local, regional, and national news…. and follow up by looking deeper into things that interest you. You never know when a chance mention can lead you to a place that will become a life long interest.
A general fitness certification can be helpful, but a degree first will give you much more of an idea of where you want to go, and will give you a lot of professional credibility.
Good luck in all.
