is the american fitness institute a recognized certification
When I held a personal training certification I did ACE. This is one that would rank with the more recognized programs, though that was a while ago, and I know there has been an explosion of training programs. Well, there is money to be made in it, but how to wade through all the claims to find what is good“.
There are some that most people in the fitness industry will recognize, and not just recognize but respect. (like ACSM, or NASM, ISSA, or ACE). I would have to say I have never heard of this one.
The other thing to ask is whether it is NCCA accredited. (This may not be a deal breaker by itself, AFAA does not have it, but has name recognition and has been around for many years.) If you choose a certification that is less well known, but it is accredited that can make a difference to those you hope will hire you. I can see nothing on this institution’s web site that shows that it has this accreditation.
Actually, the web site really turned me off to it, I would say. There is material telling you how great they are, and material to sign up and give them money, but I cannot find much on the organization: who runs it, corporate philosophy, background, etc. If I were going in to ask for work and using someone to speak for me and say I could do the job, I would want to make sure who was speaking for me.
Hi Ariadne, from the looks of it, it’s not accredited or recognized, it looks no different than ASFA, I was certified with ASFA, and barely could get a job anywhere with that cert. If you need to get certified asap, I’ll recommend Fitour, they are more recognized in our industry. But still seek a certification that is NCCA accredited it will go further in your career.
My wishes to you

I was interested in this because they have a practical approach like AFAA – you take a weekly training. They also have discount programs through Groupon, etc., which are cheap. I think it may be ok as a supplement. Anything where you get hands-on training is good in my book. But I have AFAA as my major certification and will be taking the ACE exam next month.
Meh. I’m a lifelong athlete and decided I wanted to train so I went online and found the best bang for the buck. I chose ASFA…GOT the Master Trainer Cert..then went out and got the first Trainer job I applied for with one of the biggest fitness chains in the nation. When it comes to training most of the valuable stuff you know comes from having been an athlete and studying on your own. For years. Like me. For knowledge on Sports Science I’ll myself up against any newly minted little ACE or NASM girl who was never a athlete and didn’t spend thousands of hours in the gym like me.
