Millions of Americans struggle with their mental health. In addition, the COVID pandemic triggered a 25% increase in anxiety and depression worldwide. Nutrition may be part of the solution. We know food has the power to enhance or impair how we feel. A growing area of research and practice shows that what we put on our plates—and how it fuels the microbiome—impacts our emotional, psychological and social well-being. This session will provide an update on the science of food and mood; look at specific foods, nutrients and dietary patterns that may help; and summarize simple steps to support clients’ mental health through nutrition.
