Obesity care has been transformed with the introduction and availability of new anti-obesity medications (e.g. Ozempic™, Wegovy™, Mounjaro™, Zepbound™) that are highly effective at reducing body weight, adiposity, and related chronic conditions. But what does this mean for the fitness professional and how we design exercise prescriptions? This session will break down this complex topic by first providing attendees with an overview of how these agents work and how they are properly prescribed. It will then dive into what we know and don’t currently know about exercise, body composition, and muscle loss within the context of these medications using the latest scientific evidence. Lastly, key considerations will be outlined for exercise programming along with behavioral strategies to facilitate exercise uptake and adherence that are specific to clients taking an anti-obesity agent.
