There are approximately 2.4 million hip and knee replacements in the US each year. Total knee replacements account for 1.5 million at the average age of 67 years old; and 930,000 hip replacements each year, with the average age of the patient at 66 years old. The medical community supports physical activity for those who have not only been through rehab after their joint replacement procedure, but continued exercise thereafter. This session will delve into the common limitations people with artificial joints face and how the fitness professional can be a positive influence on the client’s comeback journey to an active lifestyle. This course will explore the biomechanics of the lower extremity, hip, and shoulder, indications and contraindications to an effective and efficient exercise program for those with an artificial knee, hip, and shoulder.
