Breathing has previously been an overlooked aspect of both training and rehabilitation. Traditionally, we simply cue breathing with, “inhale during the eccentric phase and exhale through the concentric phase.” But this doesn’t speak to the importance of the breath in movement, nor does it teach our clients how to breathe optimally to increase the efficiency of movement. In this session, we will look at some different breath assessments and retraining exercises to improve breathing in clients. We will then explore how breathing should be prescribed and used within a training session.
