According to the 2019 Gallup poll, Americans are among the most stressed people in the world. This negative emotion causes an imbalance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Individuals who suffer from chronic stress may experience symptoms such as irritability, fatigue, headaches, sleep disturbances and decreased immunity. Heart rate variability, subtle variations between each heartbeat, is a simple way to monitor stress. This session evaluates the influence of high-intensity training and yoga/meditation on heart rate variability. With this data, we will provide recommendations for the optimal stress-reducing physical activity prescription.
