Foundational Movement Assessment for Optimal Corrective Exercise Programming

Session 473 • Friday, July 10 • 2:30–4:20pm

Pete Holman, MSPT

In this session, participants will be exposed to foundational movement patterns and the common dysfunctions associated with them. Once identified, movement dysfunction will be addressed with easy-to-implement corrective exercises. This course will give participants insight into what a physical therapist looks for in dysfunctional movement and the thought process that goes into corrective exercise selection. Begin to bridge the gap between personal training and sports medicine with this informative and practical session.

Cue Your Way to Success

Session 608 • Saturday, July 11 • 7:30–9:20am

Pete Holman, MSPT

How much do you know about core performance? Can you identify the four stages of motor learning? Do you know Dr. Stuart McGill’s “Big Three?” Can you articulate the difference between abdominal hollowing and abdominal bracing? Are you familiar with the terms, “sacral winking” or “torsional buttressing?” Do you know what cylinder mechanics are and how they relate to performance and durability? If you answered “No” to any of these questions, this session is for you. Join Pete as he gets you up to speed on the science behind core performance and shares his 25 years of experience studying it in this one-of-a-kind interactive workshop.

Hidden Secrets to Core Performance

Session 638 • Saturday, July 11 • 9:40–11:30am

Pete Holman, MSPT

Have you ever witnessed a coach or martial arts sensei who can turn a mediocre athlete into a champion? Have you ever seen a trainer who seamlessly maximizes functional outcomes and body transformation for their clients? 901 Foundational Movement Anatomy and Kinesiology Modeling

Wednesday, July 8, 8:00am–5:00pm (1-hour lunch is on your own)

Pete Holman, MSPT

If you need to brush up on your anatomy and how it applies to human movement, look no further than this 8-hour postconference session. In this course, we will explore functional anatomy and how it applies to foundational movement, foundational movement assessment, and most importantly, how to coach, cue and correct dysfunctional movement. In this first-ever course offering, we will use 3D skeletal models to identify muscle origin and insertion, and apply the learning to foundational movement. This course is taught by a physical therapist and is intended to help bridge the gap between personal training and rehabilitative medicine.

  • The anatomical origin, insertion and action of muscles involved with foundational movements
  • How joint limitations alter kinetic chain biomechanics
  • How to assess foundational movement patterns for compensations & dysfunctions
  • Corrective exercise strategies to address common foundational movement dysfunction

Up to 8 CECs. Exact CECs from individual agencies are pending.
