The Dean of Varsity Menopause? That’s right! Sally Bartlett specializes in helping women come to terms—and flourish—through “the emotional, physical and intellectual symptoms that come with transitioning hormones.” She began her professional fitness journey in 1995, after losing 35 pounds, and over time became a multicertified trainer, group fitness instructor and health coach. During this year’s stay-at-home orders, she channeled her outreach into daily tips on social media, all geared to help clients cope in a positive way. “My job is to inspire people and perpetuate their desire to up their self-care game one day at a time, even during challenging times,” she says. “It feels indescribably wonderful when people realize it takes only a few intentional moments per day to boost their immune system and feel better.”

“When I first attended IDEA® World back in 2004, it changed my fitness life forever,” says Simone Gonzales. “Fitness was not well developed back then in Trinidad and Tobago, so many ‘ideas’ flooded my head!” She took those thoughts, concentrated on education and certifications, and went on to become a fitness leader, teaching at Fitness Center Ltd, one of the largest chains of gyms across TnT. Honored as both a team aerobic champion and an instructor, she uses her skills to raise money for the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee’s Athlete and Welfare Preparation Fund. “With 6 weekends of classes [last March], we were able to donate $10,709.” What a wonderful way to change other lives forever, too!

Serena Scanzillo has some excellent advice for other fit pros: “If you’re not going to give this position your all, then I’d find another track,” she says. “You have to work hard at becoming your best self.” Her own hard work—and talent for innovation—shines through. In 2016, her company, SerenaFit, launched an online training studio that features live, two-way, semiprivate workouts. “We’ve learned a lot in the tech space over the last 4 years, so when the pandemic hit, we were ready!” The success of the program mirrors what she loves most about the fitness industry. “The idea that I’m able to connect a global, online community motivates me to keep growing both as an entrepreneur and as a trainer,” she explains. “I love the term ‘global family,’ as it implies we’re all one, working together toward a common goal.”
