Researchers from the Cancer Council Queensland and the Cancer Council Victoria estimate that in 2025 about 170,000 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer. This is an increase of 60% from 2007.

The researchers broke down cancer types, emphasizing those that are thought to be preventable through healthful nutrition and physical activity practices. “About 25% of cancers, or about 43,000 cancers in 2025, can potentially be prevented through improvements in diet and physical activity,” the authors said. “It is imperative that governments, clinicians and researchers act now if we are to reduce the significant future human and financial burden of cancer.”
