“My lifetime mission has been to help people feel better,” says personal trainer and wellness coach Janis McDonald. After more than 40 years in the fitness industry Janis has shifted her focus to helping older adults deal with physical changes they may experience and helping them set realistic goals. “I have acquired the tools for helping people in the third stage of life,” she says.
When working with clients Janis prefers body weight training. “While I love using all my toys, I find using just the body to improve function is fun and important for both my clients and me.” However, when Janis works out alone she enjoys going to the gym in the early morning, plugging in her iPod and using the Cybex® Arc Trainer. “I feel like I am running in space,” she says.
Janis has learned many things in her long fitness career, but she believes the most important one is to listen. “I have found that most people just want to be heard. If you listen—without an agenda—you will find what you need to know and how to help them.”
