We all have our favorite fitness apps, and if you’re like most fitness pros and enthusiasts, you are partial to many different ones—or, at least, you know about them.
Spanish researchers examined the current state of fitness app research by analyzing studies published between 2011 and 2019. The team found that most studies are in the fields of medicine, computer science and health sciences, and most relate to app performance and function, potential benefits for chronic disease treatment, apps’ influence on public health, and motivation for app users.
Researchers predict future studies will include more focus on consumer motivation, engagement and behavior. Read the study in Telematics and Informatics (2020; doi:10.1016/j.tele.2020.101506).
