Maintaining bone health and avoiding fractures are important concerns for older adults. For those who have experienced fractures, research has found that the potential for a second fracture can increase fourfold. Help your older-adult clients remain strong and healthy with Own the Bone, a Web-based registry that features tools for reducing future fractures. Developed by NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, the program includes nutrition counseling and education, physical activity recommendations, lifestyle coaching, pharmacology and bone density testing. “The Own the Bone program will help us ensure that our patients with fragility fractures are screened and appropriately treated for osteoporosis,” stated William Macaulay, chief of the Division of Adult Reconstruction and director of the Center for Hip and Knee Replacement at the medical center.
