Take one dose of vitamin E daily and exercise regularly. That’s the prescription for staying young and healthy, according to a new study that appeared in the July issue of Biological Research for Nursing.
According to the FitCommerce Web site, researchers at the University of Florida studied 59 healthy men and women (aged 60 to 75) and found that those who worked out regularly and took vitamin E supplements significantly decreased the destructive free-radical process, which contributes to aging and chronic diseases. The vitamin E dosage was 400 to 800 International Units daily. Interestingly, even those subjects who did not exercise regularly but took a daily vitamin E supplement had large decreases in the oxidative stress caused by free radicals.
