According to the International Food Information Council (IFIC) Foundation and the Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA), the top food-related topics covered in the media in 2005 were as follows (ranked by frequency of press coverage):

1. obesity

2. disease prevention/risk reduction (#1 topic in 1999 and 2003)

3. physical activity

4. weight management

5. disease causation

6. vitamin/mineral intake

7. fat intake (#1 topic in 1995)

8. functional foods

9. mad cow disease

10. caloric intake
