Gym Helps Kids Across the Spectrum
Sometimes the best ideas are born of necessity. Dina Kimmel, a mother of two, experienced difficulty finding ways to support her autistic son’s development, so she took on the challenge herself and created a “sensory gym” in her home. After seeing her son’s success with it, Kimmel decided that this type of setting should be available to others, and she opened the first We Rock the Spectrum Kid’s Gym® for All Kids in Tarzana, California.
“We Rock the Spectrum Kid’s Gym provides children with a fun and motivational environment to help them in the areas of strength, movement, sensory processing, communication, positive behavior modification, social interactions, and self-care skills,” says the gym’s website. “Our unique equipment assists all children in their neurological growth and development.”
The gym prides itself on being accessible to kids with special needs, as well as their brothers and sisters.
We Rock the Spectrum Kid’s Gym currently has 11 franchises—mostly in California—with eight more set to open in Arizona, Florida and North Carolina.
