Description

Gluten-free? Low fat? High protein Paleo? It's a jungle out there when it comes to deciding what dietary advice will help clients best achieve optimal health, longevity and well-being. In this course, Harvard-trained health expert Dr. Newby discusses whether there's any truth behind today's fads as she looks through the lens of nutrition science. You will develop a basic understanding of nutritional biochemistry—no science background needed!—and apply it to debunk diet myths. Nutrition confusion ends here.

Interesting information, not necessarily shocking but interesting. There were some subjects she got onto that I didn't agree with, mainly the protein intake section and her insistence that universally only .8 grams of protein per KG of body weight is all that is necessary for good health, but she didn't mention any variables like weightlifters, male/female, age (she did touch on age, but not enough), etc?

Also, it seemed like she had a vegetarian agenda. I'm not anti-vegetarian, but I wanted to hear about MYTHS being busted and not get a lecture on how meat is destroying the planet.

This is a very relevent topic of concern for today's world. There is no question, Dr. Newby knows her topic, and her passion shows through. However, she did try to cram too much information into too little time. I believe she did not fulfil the objectives of her title. The science was not simplified. She had to fly thorugh it with insufficient time to simplify it. Supplementary, complementary information interspersed amongst the myths made it a little difficult to actually follow the myths. Some of the myths were quite unique. Indeed, I was not aware of some of her myths. I wanted to follow them but did get waylaid by confusion at times. All in all very good information, but some questions left unanswered.

Kept my interest but the ability to read the charts took away from the effectiveness.
