At several City Surf Fitness locations in Texas and Louisiana, City Surf offers participants the benefits of surfing—even though there aren’t any waves nearby. According to the website, the class is taught on SURFSET® RipSurfer X boards and features “fun surf-inspired movements, utilizing surfer-specific muscle groups.” Classes are open to every fitness level, and instructors provide modifications for more or less intensity.
Mile High Run Club in New York City, a studio dedicated to running, offers a group treadmill class called Dash 28. The program is coached by elite runners and builds a foundation for athletes of all levels. In addition to 28 minutes of treadmill intervals, the class includes 10 minutes of strength and power training with kettlebells.
New moms have an opportunity to get back in shape with baby in tow in BYO Baby Barre at F3 Friends-Fitness-Fun in Westborough, Massachusetts. During this dynamic barre workout, participants “wear” their babies in a wrap or body carrier. The club seeks to provide an atmosphere of fun and fitness for all ages and encourages physical activity for the entire family.
BRO-lesque, at Culture Shock Dance Center in San Diego, invites men to unleash their inner Magic Mike. This playful class teaches a masculine version of burlesque dancing, with a fun and sensual groove, and gives participants the freedom to let loose. “My main focus in class is for everyone to feel comfortable and confident in their bodies and their movement,” says dance instructor Daniel Macias.
Ageless Grace , a program at Sculpting Results in Snellville, Georgia, was created with seniors in mind. Open to all fitness levels, the program specifically targetes people who believe their range of movement is quite limited. Participants experience improvements in cardiovascular fitness, joint mobility and blood circulation.
A three-station group-circuit class called BrickFIT is the newest fitness sensation at KarateFIT in Hockessin, Delaware. Rotating from suspension devices to treadmills to indoor cycling bikes, participants experience a wide variety of physical challenges. Attendees connect to heart rate monitors so that instructors can safely push them to their limits. As a bonus, the details of each workout—including the number of calories burned—are emailed to individuals upon completion.
