Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disease that affects about 34 million Americans, and the numbers are rising. Nearly one in 10 Americans have type 2 diabetes, with one new case diagnosed every 21 seconds. Lifestyle factors play a huge role in the prevention and treatment of this pathology—but how? In this session, we look at the research on type 2 diabetes and what really are the main contributors to this metabolic disease (not a short or sweet answer). We will discuss the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes, how it damages the body, and the positive effect of various types of exercise in controlling this metabolic condition.
