STOTT PILATES® Sliding Mobility Disks for Dynamic Stabilization, Matwork

Mobilizing all joints, from spine to appendages, is necessary to maintain a supple, resilient body. However, flexibility and range of motion are not enough on their own. For a fully functional physique, establishing stability in movement is equally important. Created by the programming team at Merrithew™, this workshop incorporates simple Sliding Mobility Disks™ in matwork-based sequences that challenge the musculature of the whole body. Three-dimensional patterns build on floor work for the arms, legs, and core, as they progress to a standing series targeting upright balance and control. Designed with body awareness, muscular strength, motor control, and joint mobility in mind, this workshop uses ankle tubing for a fresh take on creating flowing sequences with STOTT PILATES® Matwork exercises. As developed by the movement experts at Merrithew™, essential and intermediate exercises that incorporate elastic resistance are at the center of focus. The seamless series guides you through all movement planes, from standing down to the mat, while variations allow for easy progression or regression, suitable for nearly every fitness level.

In this hands-on workshop, instructors encounter an overview of the concepts of the Halo Training program and the basic science of core-integrated bodyweight training. Props, props, props! Clients love props, and when you incorporate them into a lively, music-inspired barre class, they not only provide a fun and intense challenge, but ensure target muscles are firing effectively, and clients are getting the desired results. This 4-hour workshop, developed by the Merrithew™ team, follows the 11-segment, 1-hour class template, introduced in the Total Barre Foundation Course. Learn unique, energetic choreography coupled with effective cues to reinforce safe biomechanics for each movement of the workout. The added resistance of a Flex-Band®, and ankle tubing effectively activates stabilizing and mobilizing muscles, and the addition of the Mini Stability Ball™ provides both support and challenge. This workout, choreographed to a great selection of music, is a wonderful addition to your barre program.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Learn how to apply the comprehensive alignment principles and concepts used in all Total Barre programs.
  • Understand how to use the 11-Segment template to provide choreography and tempo for a one hour
  • Discover how key movement segments are broken down in detail in order to learn how to cue for safe, optimal biomechanics.
  • Explore how to work with music, phrasing and counting as well as teaching strategies, exercise variations and modifications to ensure classes are safe and effective for all participants.
