In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Noel Chelliah runs an outdoor boot camp called Daily Muscle Transformation Camp. Malaysia has a tropical climate, and the weather is unpredictable—often going from sunshine to pouring rain in mere moments. “Although this sounds a little intimidating at first to most people,” Chelliah says, “we’ve found that when participants pull though a rainy-day class, it actually becomes one of the most memorable workouts for everyone.” He adds: “When was the last time we stopped to play in the rain? For many of us, it was only when we were kids.”
On the outside, Jumpin’ Jitney looks like a standard—albeit colorfully painted—former school bus. But on the inside, it has been transformed into a mobile gym that hosts a specialized sports and gymnastics program. The bus makes weekly stops at various daycare centers in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, to help young children develop motor skills and athleticism. The bus is padded and carpeted for safety, and has monkey bars, as well as areas where additional acrobatic equipment can be attached.
In Plymouth, England, a new fitness class has locals rocking out. RockFit,
created by Hannah Le Rouge, is a high-energy class that combines cardio and strengthening accompanied by a rock and heavy-metal soundtrack. With artists such as Motörhead, Limp Bizkit, Bon Jovi and Rammstein gracing the playlists, members who prefer rock ’n’ roll over pop music can get their music and exercise fix at the same time. “Dance, rock music and fitness have always been passions of mine,” says Le Rouge in a press release. “I thought there had to be a way of combining these things into something that would benefit lots of people and be epic fun at the same time.” The class became so popular it is now offered three times per week.
