Ken Alan

Ken Alan is a lecturer in the department of kinesiology at California State University Fullerton and has served on certification committees for ACE, ACSM and AFAA. The author of four book chapters, he is on the editorial review board for the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity. Ken co-stars in the Time-Life Medical Exercise Video series and was the content developer, program designer and choreographer for Richard Simmons. A past recipient of IDEA’s Instructor of the Year award, Ken’s workshops and lectures have educated and entertained trainers and instructors for many years.

Staci Alden

Staci Alden

Staci Alden has been a dedicated group fitness director at PRO Club in Seattle since 2012. She oversees an amazing team of 115 private Pilates and group fitness instructors, and she believes that successful leaders understand their most important role is to promote, serve and support their team. Staci teaches and hires for all formats provided at PRO Club and is a master Balanced Body Barre® instructor. Staci’s leadership has increased instructor retention, built successful new programs and continues to grow the department revenue each year.

Michelle Alencar

Michelle Alencar

Michelle Alencar, PhD, is an associate professor of fitness at California State University, Long Beach, and serves as the chief science officer for inHealth Medical Services, Inc. She is a certified clinical nutritionist and exercise physiologist with a passion for mobile health and its capability to provide nutrition, fitness and behavior modification strategies for health and wellness. Michelle was recognized in 2018 by the Obesity Medicine Association for her innovative research.

Tony Ambler-Wright

Tony Ambler-Wright, MS, has been a master instructor for NASM since 2005. He is a senior practitioner and director of training and education for Fusionetics®, and adjunct faculty in the exercise science and sport studies department at California University of Pennsylvania. Training professionally for over two decades, Tony has spent the last 8 years as a consultant to facilities, elite athletes, sports teams and programs—from high school and collegiate, to the major league, professional and Olympic ranks—designing and implementing integrated assessment methods as well as manual therapy, corrective exercise, athletic reconditioning and performance training programs.

Tim Anderson

Tim Anderson

Tim Anderson has been a personal trainer for over 20 years. He is an accomplished author and speaker, and is known for streamlining complex ideas into simple and applicable information. He is passionate about helping people realize they were created to be strong and healthy. Tim has written many books on this subject, including Habitual Strength, Pressing Reset and Original Strength Performance. He also owns a movement education company called Original Strength Systems, where he teaches movement professionals how to help their clients and patients reset and restore their bodies. He teaches this system in some of the largest professional sports and medical establishments in the U.S. as well as internationally. His message is simple but powerful: we were made to be strong.

Trevor Anderson ("T.A.") is the owner, operator and founder of the Better Every Day® Performance Institute in Orlando, Florida. He has worked with Under Armour® since 2009 as a brand ambassador, and he is a former professional athlete who has been blessed with the opportunity to train and work with athletes in the NFL, NBA, PGA, MLB, as well as Olympians.

Lenita Anthony

Lenita Anthony, MS, is a veteran industry presenter, author and master educator for Stages™ Cycling. She has over 25 years experience in clinical exercise physiology, program development and fitness education. A former IDEA contributing editor board member, her expertise includes program design for special populations, working with medical professionals, and sports performance. Lenita is a licensed USA Cycling Power Coach, a coach for the Challenged Athlete's Foundation, a former coach for the U.S. Women's Triathlon Series, and she holds multiple USA Cycling State and National Championship titles, as well as an age group world record.

Abbie Appel

Abbie Appel is the owner of Abbiefit Consulting and the program director for Fitspace. As an award-winning fitness educator, Abbie develops and delivers programs for Power Systems®, Schwinn® Cycling, TRX® Training and many other organizations. She developed the SCW Pilates and SCW Barre certifications, and has produced and starred in over 30 fitness videos. Abbie contributes to fitness publications such as SELF, Shape, Prevention and IDEA Journal, and is certified by ACE, AFAA and NASM.

Nichole Arthur

Nichole Arthur has always been involved in fitness, beginning with gymnastics and dance in childhood. Following her love for health and wellness, she earned her RN from Pacific Lutheran University in 2002, but always remained active in fitness. Nichole is certified as a group fitness instructor, personal trainer, Schwinn® and Madd Dog cycle instructor, and TRX® Suspension trainer. She enjoys keeping things fresh with new challenges while providing an encouraging, supportive and fun environment. Expect to sweat and leave class smiling, proud and energized to tackle the day.

Travis Barnes

Travis Barnes is a certified personal trainer who grew his multimillion-dollar fitness company, Journey 333, to five locations in less than 4 years. He started at less than zero, building his future with an unemployment check while living in a FEMA trailer. Now, his company is known for its exemplary customer service and business systems, and he is franchising it across the globe. Travis is a co-author of two books, 52 Amazing Journeys and Journey Fitness.

Emma Barry

Emma Barry is an observer and a catalyst. She is also a founding member of the group fitness juggernaut Les Mills International, and a former director for the luxury lifestyle brand Equinox. Emma has inhaled senior roles in programming, product development and training, and she consults to the fastest growing fitness segments: budget clubs and boutique studios. A prolific writer, sought after speaker and mentor, she is fluent in what happens NEXT in fitness, contributing to global forums, trend panels and women’s events. A long-time author and subject matter expert for IDEA, she is also a contributing editor for Today's Dietitian.

Blake Beltram

Blake Beltram

Blake Beltram, who holds a degree in theater, film and television from UCLA, was cast in the unlikely story that is MINDBODY® when, in 1998, he bought a how-to book, The Microsoft Access 97 Bible, and started making software for Mari Winsor Pilates. That led to co-founding MINDBODY with lifelong friend Rick Stollmeyer, which today serves over 65,000 businesses that render services to over 40 million consumers. Current creative obsessions include MINDBODY One, a peer community for wellness business owners, the Wellness Revolutionaries podcast, advocating for the Personal Health Investment Today Act, and launching a Mindfulness Tour.

Pam Benchley

Pam Benchley has been teaching, training and leading fitness educational workshops for over 25 years. She is one of the original master educators with Stages™ Indoor Cycling and was awarded Presenter of the Year in 2018. Pam is also a lead trainer with Hedstrom® Fitness, the creators of the BOSU® Balance Trainer as well as Surge® brands. She has been a provider of ACE, AFAA and canfitpro education, presenting both nationally and internationally at events such as IHRSA, IDEA, SCW, DCAC, Empower and canfitpro, and she served on the faculty of SUNY Fredonia for 21 years in the department of sport management and exercise science. Pam is a dedicated multisport athlete, competing in multiple Ironman® events, and she is currently a member of Team Stages Cycling.

Leslee Bender

Leslee Bender is an international presenter, the creator of the Bender Method of training and a graduate of the Gray Institute of Applied Functional Science®. She is best known for the 2007 Bender Ball Fitness infomercial and has filmed over 20 DVDs. Leslee is a lead trainer for Club Pilates®, bringing functionality to flexibility and fascia as a modality to keep the body pain free, as well as the co-creator of Barre Above® and Pilates Focus for Savvier Fitness. Dr. Stephen Black

Stephen Black, DSc, MEd, PT, is a world-renowned leader in the field of sports medicine, rehabilitation, fitness and sports performance. As a physical therapist, athletic trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialist, Stephen uses his background in sport biomechanics, movement quality, muscle imbalance and manual therapy to specialize in all aspects of human performance. He has worked extensively with a variety of professional athletes and teams with emphasis on holistic care and an integrative approach. Stephen created the Rocky Mountain Human Performance® Center allowing him to work one on one with athletes, direct his associates in optimal sports medicine delivery while conducting research and teaching in a variety of arenas. He has worked with professional teams (Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Toronto Blue Jays), and Olympians in gymnastics, wrestling and swimming. Stephen delivered lectures on his methods and treated athletes at the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games. Stephen is featured in 50 Athletes Over 50: Teach Us to Live a Strong, Healthy Life by Don McGrath, along with several local and national publications, including Sports Illustrated, ESPN, Men’s Health and Glamour.

Now, with over 230 shows and 350,000 downloads, it is the world's leading business podcast for fitness business owners and managers. Chantal has interviewed over 250 fitness industry leaders, coaches, consultants and authors, including Todd Durkin, Trina Gray, Michael Piercy, Emma Barry and hundreds more. As director of programming for the BOSU® brand, she creates innovative workshop and leads the global master trainer teams. Candice, with her husband Douglas, directs year-round athlete conditioning programs on top of a mountain at Sugar Bowl Ski Academy.

Douglas Brooks

Douglas Brooks, MS, is an exercise physiologist and the director of programming for Hedstrom® Fitness, BOSU® and Surge®. A former Ironman® triathlete, he directed athlete conditioning for Sugar Bowl Ski Academy for 8 years, working with elite junior and professional athletes. Douglas was inducted into the U.S. National Fitness Hall of Fame and has been honored by canfitpro as the International Presenter of the Year and by IDEA as the 2014 Personal Trainer of the Year. Coach Brooks is the author of numerous fitness education books.

Kendra Bylsma

Kendra Bylsma is the owner and lead health coach at Allegro Coaching, a regional wellness company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A boutique fitness facility, Allegro Coaching offers 40+ group fitness classes, one-on-one personal training, massage therapy, nutrition coaching and corporate wellness services. Her team of 35 health coaches works with 35 local companies, ranging from 50—5,000+ employees. Kendra currently serves on the IDEA World Club & Studio advisory committee and is a certified John Maxwell leadership coach, as well as a business coach to female fitness entrepreneurs across the country.

Rose Calucchia

Rose Calucchia has been in the fitness industry for over 10 years. From working in both big box and independent gyms as a personal trainer to owning her own studio, Rose has experienced many different sides of the business. Most recently, Rose has been working with GMB Fitness™, specializing in body-weight gymnastics-style training. As a GMB lead trainer, she teaches workshops and seminars, as well as coaches the GMB trainer apprenticeship program. Apart from teaching movement, Rose coaches trainers on various aspects of business development, helping trainers grow their businesses sustainably.

Mark Cheng, PhD

Mark Cheng has spent his life focused on optimizing health and human performance through tactical and rehabilitative movement. A lifelong student of the martial arts, he holds instructorship under the direct tutelage of legendary Bruce Lee protégé Dan Inosanto. Mark is also the creator of the tai chi-based training program Tai Cheng from BeachBody®. He is as a faculty member of both Functional Movement Systems and StrongFirst®, where he serves as a senior SFG-ranked instructor.

Heidi Cohen-Hemler, MS, has had 25 years of teaching success by offering an authentic style of education, innovation and fun to create transformative experiences. She holds a master’s degree in kinesiology from CSU Fullerton, a bachelor’s degree in human biodynamics from UC Berkeley and is NASM and AAFA certified. Heidi has spent the last half decade whole heartedly dedicated to deepening her study and practice of LifePower Yoga as a LifePower Yoga Boutique manager and yoga teacher trainer, completing two 200-hour and one 300-hour yoga teacher trainings.

Some of his prior positions include Division I collegiate head coach and strength-conditioning coach, opening and managing clubs for Club One, and president of Genesis Wellness Consulting. He is a national and international presenter, a media spokesperson and an accomplished author.

Marc Coronel is an industry-award-winning senior master course instructor and presenter for TRX®, TriggerPoint™, ActivMotion Bar® and Under Armour® training team, and an international consultant for gyms, international schools and businesses. Currently training out of Las Vegas, Marc focuses on large- and small-group training, as well as athletic performance for MMA fighters and athletes of all disciplines. Marc has been honored with overall internal awards from TRX® in 2012 and TriggerPoint in 2014, and as the SCW Presenter of the Year in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Rachel Cosgrove

Rachel Cosgrove, 2012 IDEA Personal Trainer of the Year, co-owns and operates Results Fitness in Southern California. Opened in 2000, Results Fitness was voted one of the top 10 gyms in the USA by Men's Health Magazine and one of the Best Gyms in the US by Women's Health Magazine and was featured on BBC World for its scientific programming. Rachel has authored two best-selling books:—The Female Body Breakthrough and Drop Two Sizes—and created the Drop Two Sizes DVD set. A consultant for Nike, she is also on the advisory board and is a columnist for Women's Health Magazine. An athlete herself—she is an Ironman triathlete—Rachel has completed half-marathons, powerlifting competitions and fitness events. She and her team at Results Fitness strive to become the best part of their members' day, achieving results and changing lives while having fun doing it!

Leigh Crews is the 2011 IDEA World Fitness Instructor of the Year, the CEO of Dynalife, Inc., and a senior master course instructor for TRX®. She has presented internationally and appeared on CNN, QVC and other American TV networks. Leigh is a development consultant with clients that include TRX®, Reebok, IDEA and others. Her programs include Reebok Final Cuts, The Flow Yoga series, and Unleashing the Athlete With Zen. In 2018, the Women in Fitness Association recognized Leigh as one of an elite group of leaders in their Women Who Birthed an Industry event at IHRSA.

Tahneetra Crosby is an international fitness presenter and educator with over 17 years of experience. She is a senior course instructor, conference presenter and application coach for TRX® Suspension Training®. Tahneetra joined the Hedstrom® Fitness, BOSU® and Surge® team as a master trainer and is also a StairMaster® and Schwinn® Indoor Cycling master trainer. She has appeared in several fitness videos, including the Bowflex® Max Trainer®, and specializes in strength training, cycle, dance, boot camp and interval-style classes with an emphasis on the fun factor. Michael Cummings, PT, is the director of education for SKLZ®, TriggerPoint™ and Harbinger®, a certified fitness, performance and rehabilitation specialist, and a seasoned strength and conditioning coach who has worked with several top-level teams and athletes across professional and Olympic organizations. He has 20 years of experience in the industry in positions ranging from personal trainer, health club owner, and strength and conditioning coach, to international presenter, author and content developer, business consultant and inventor. Michael has over 50 utility and design patents in sport and fitness training to his name and is an associate education coach for EXOS®.

Michol Dalcourt is an educator, author, inventor and industry leader in the areas of human movement and performance training. He has served as an instructor at the NAIT College School of Health Sciences, and as an adjunct faculty member at the University of San Francisco in the sports science department. Currently the director of the Institute of Motion, Michol is also the creator of ViPR™ and the co-founder of PTA Global.

Amy Davis

Amy Davis

Amy Davis is the group fitness director of Sports Academy & Racquet Club. She teaches all that and the kitchen sink, with training and certifications in kickboxing, aqua, Pilates, dance, barre, cycling and yoga. Amy is a 500-hour RYT, and loves being part of the AFAA team. She has presented at IDEA and in the SCW Mania circuit. Amy spends her weekends training group fitness instructors and yogis, and her weekdays teaching fitness classes.

Shelley Dawson

Shelley Dawson is passionate about health and fitness, and she loves motivating, inspiring and assisting others on their journey to health. She is the director of the STOTT PILATES® program at Sports Academy & Racquet Club, and has over a decade of experience teaching group fitness classes such as kickboxing, HIIT training, barre, dance, interval, spin and mind-body. Shelley is NASM, AFAA and STOTT certified, and a E-RYT 200 master trainer for Yoga Assets where she spends weekends teaching others how to become yoga instructors. Shelley resides in Logan, Utah, with her husband and five beautiful children.

Debra de Luen has 29 years of experience in the health and fitness industry with a particular emphasis on instructor training, team building and mentoring. She is the owner of an award-winning, ladies-only health club, and her passion for fitness leadership and community allowed her to maintain the same core team of employees and over 200 of the same members for 17 years. Her passion for group exercise, and ballroom and Latin dance led her to become a master trainer and presenter for FitSteps as the perfect blend of the two worlds.
