The Bill is titled the “Omnibus Health Regulation Amendment Act of 2013″. It was passed into law in February of 2014.
Here is a link to a letter by the National Board of Fitness Examiners about the bill passage:
Years ago I always thought I wanted our industry to be regulated until I got older & wised up. The last thing I want to do is to pay a government registration or license fee & have some “committee” tell me how to train people. Our industry has been doing just fine regulating itself – the quality Fitness Professionals thrive & the imposters eventually get weeded out and quickly move on to their next “profession.”
Whoa! I actually just went back & read this bill – are you kidding me? “The D. C. Board of Physical Therapy will oversee the registration process” – but the President of the D.C. Physical Therapy Association opposes it. What’s up with that? I guess they didn’t think to meet with the President of the P.T. Association first? – something isn’t right here. What’s really confusing is that this bill is written by David Herbert, the top legal mind in the Personal Training industry – ok – I think I just figured it out!
