Hi Chuck,

The answer is yes. Two very different sports and programs, but at the end both athletes have to be in their best shape and physical condition if they want to compete at this level. They will be following training programs designed specifically for their sport, but the goal should be the same. And this goes for any athlete who has high goals, competitive spirit and pursues excellence no matter which level they are competing at (high school, college or professional).

Best,
Harris

Hello Chuck,
By what method/s-standard/s are your measuring these two different athletes condition?
And what conditions are being measured?

Sincerely,
Michael

Hi Chuck,

I was wondering about the standard as well. As Harris said, they are both in great physical condition but you would clearly have differences which pertain to the different goals for sports-specific training. For example, I would not expect a wrestler to train for vertical jump ability.

Compared to a non-athlete, however, I would expect them to outperform him in all categories of fitness.

Hello Chuck Perry,

That depends on your definition of “same condition”.
Both athletes should be in the best condition to perform their specific sport. Although, if you have one athlete do the other sport that they did not train for, things change. For example, the basketball player would most likely not be flexible enough for wrestling.
Take care.

From my perspective your question is like asking is a professional football lineman in the same physical condition as a quarterback.

Both play at elite levels both are conditioned enough to play at an “elite” level, however, the positions they play are very different.

Is an individual who plays golf at an elite condition just as a conditioned as a marathoner? It all depends upon what they are conditioned for. Sport-specific conditioning is relative to the sport the individual plays.

Thanks for your question.
