Why isn’t ISSA accredited by NCCA?
I’ve researched many companies, because I want to get my PT certification and had decided to use ISSA. Maybe I should reconsider, because I noticed a great gym online that needs a Front Desk Coordinator. Have the experience to qualify for this position as a start, but they only hire PTs who have cert. accredited by NCCA.
Hi Jo,
this is a question that only ISSA can answer. The NCCA accreditation process has certain standards which ISSA may not meet.
While ISSA has a good personal trainer certification which will give you a lot of practical knowledge, it may be worth looking at another certification. As you noticed, this will make you more marketable.

Look at the 6 locales that you’re the most interested in working, and find out what their requirements are. IMO, get the best, most reputable certification that you can afford, so you don’t have to do it twice. The time and the expense are significant.
I learned this the hard way. I’m happy with my ACE PT certification, but I took it because it was a bit cheaper and because I could test at a computer center ASAP. Then I got a job where I felt like I needed NASM, and had to shell out another $800!
This gives a little more insight. I am ISSA Certified and very happy that I went with this wonderful company.
