I listen to just about everything out there, I have tuned into Pandora and I pay close attention to what the DJ’s are spinin’ in the clubs and music festivals these days. I also visit websites like Beatport.com, MixingOnBeat.com. There are also many great podcasts out there to get your creative juices flowing. I also take requests from participates but with that said, I don’t like fumbling around with my iPod while I’m teaching class. If I can find what is requested I’ll do my best to work it into my playlist for a future class.
I set aside a few hours a month to search for music. I usually go to the “licensed” music websites and search for a particular genre each time I do this. They usually have pre-packaged music that I will listen to a few seconds of several of the pieces to get a feel for the music. Luckily, with modern tech, I can rearrange the playlist and edit to make it fit my desires. It is time consuming, but it gets me the exact music to workout that I am looking for and it is part of my job. Easy is usually not quality.
