Where do you find clients?
The answer to that question will be a bit different depending on where you plan to work…. Do you want to have a personal training practice where you will go to people’s homes to work one on one? Do you want to find places to go in to offer group classes? Do you want to have your own space?
One of the things that is good about working in established businesses for a while is it gives you contacts and a sense of the market, and referrals. Most of the people I’ve worked with one on one came to me because someone they knew had worked with me at one of the places where I work, and this person did not belong to one of those facilities and needed services they did not offer. I try to be very scrupulous about not siphoning people from one place I work to another, and to have loyalty to any place with which I have a relationship, but you will get to know other professionals, as well as have people willing to write reviews, or say nice things to their friends by getting your feet wet in an established location.
It is also helpful to have business cards and to carry them everyplace. Some people I know have a discount card for first class also. I’ve been to quite a few parties or social events where I will be talking about yoga and will get asked for my card. Again, I am not a hard sell person, but it is good to be open when asked.
If you like working with kids you might check your local elementary and middle schools. Some offer after school programs that are extras…. in our local school they do it twice a year for 6 week sessions, and people offer everything from martial arts, to yoga, to cake decorating, to scrapbooking to science fun. And you can send your information home at the end of the session. If the kids know about you and like you, again, it puts your name on the horizon of the parents.
You could also offer free sessions at your place of worship, if you have friends in the beauty industry you could offer to do a free cooking demo, (if you certification and insurance allow you to do that… )
These are just a few ideas off the top of my head. I am sure others have more ideas. You need to be creative as the market is quite full these days, but your personal training cert. is a well known and respected one, and you have a 200 hour alliance cert for yoga, so your credentials are good, which is always helpful.
Good luck,
