Where do studio owners go to get good prices and service when purchasing equipment, such as a cable cross or elliptical?
Hi Susan,
I also have a small studio. For equipment that could possibly need service, I have bought them locally. I looked at specialty fitness stores but also places like Sears. Even though my equipment gets more mileage than regular home use, it’s not near the usage in commercial gyms. Thus I purchased cardio equipment on the high end of the home market and, as a result, I never had to call for service.
I also have a cable cross which I bought years ago from Paramount. If I had to do it again, I would look around locally. You have to watch out for those if you have height restrictions because these arms can swing up very high. This is another piece where service is not a concern. Once it is in place, there is little that can break
Wish you good luck.

I have found stuff on Craigslist and ebay. If you google the item you are looking for, you should come up with dealers and used dealers of it. As Karin mentioned, I would stay with commercial grade equipment for the cardio (vs home equipment). If you can find a cardio piece that is commercial grade and has been in someone’s house, that will obviously have a lot less use on it. A nice trick for moving pieces and equipment around is four wheel dollys that you can buy at a Home Depot, Harbor Frieght Tools, etc.
I just outfitted my studio with benches and weights from Elivate Fitness (Michael 800-537-5512 x 5128 was beyond helpful) and cardio equipment from Spirit Fitness Direct (Melissa 870-935-1107 x 617 was great too). It was all delivered over the weekend and my husband put it all together. Really nice products at even nicer prices. When you check out Elivate, make sure you have an account set up as a business for the discounted prices.
Hope this helps!

I am waiting on an order of two pieces that I bought from gymstore.com . I am in Hawaii so it will take a bit longer than if you are in the 48 for shipping. The equipment is refurbished. The price was about half for the same equipment new.
I will send you an email if want to know how things go in my receiving the shipment and the quality of the two pieces once I get them. Email me at [email protected] .
You can check out our website at www.hawaiifitnessacademy.com as well. I teach a number of CEC courses and just like talking shop. If you are ever coming to the Big Island, shoot me an email as well.
