Having a fusion in my neck myself makes this is an easy question with room for thinking outside of the box.

I’d have to say if I were going to pick three exercises, though, then I’d choose regular squat with the olympic bar on one’s upper traps, Push ups. And a tie for third with pull ups and traditional crunches.

Any exercise that pulls the neck past the frontal plane and into the sagittal plane is going to be a neurological issue waiting to happen.

Spot on. You also want to avoid having the client avoid overhead shoulder press, lat pulldowns which will both create excessive axial loading to the spine and fused area.

Cheers

Why do answer your own question? Is this a quiz? While I agree that exercises that involve shoulder abduction past 90 degrees may not be appropriate, I think the best answer for a particular individual should come from his/her physician or physical therapist.

Take care.
