what would your advice be to a client is they were asked have you ever worked with a personal trainer
The relationship between trainer and client can be quite intense. You are working closely with people for what can end up being many years.
During this time, they will experience numerous ups and downs in their lives, many of which they will share with you: marriage, pregnancy, job changes, loss of loved ones, and so on. The nature of the trainer-client relationship is physical, mental, and emotional. You are being placed in a position of trust, and must take great care to respect that position
I would be totally honest. There have been times in my fitness career when I have trained with my mentors to a) get together and exchange ideas~exercises b) be trained (pay) to accomplish a physical task that I hadn’t done before.
I wouldn’t consider working with others for CEU’s etc, an honest answer. I would ask the client to clarify. If the answer is no, it’s no.
However, being a client or shadowing another trainer for a session or 2 can be very valuable. It’s always important for me to put myself in someone else’s shoes. By the same token, I would NEVER ask a client to do a series of exercises or workout I’ve never tried myself.
I can answer honestly…
yes
