What was your most embarrassing gym moment?
I am intentionally putting forth a more light hearted question. My most embarrassing moment was while I was in the men’s locker room at a large gym. I saw a woman enter the room, so I quickly shouted to let her know she entered the wrong room. She came back and looked at me which, of course, is when i realized that she was a perfectly normal looking man! He had really long hair though!
I love your question Phillip.
I believe most of us have had hilarious/embarrassing moments in the gym/fitness setting.
A most embarrassing moment for me happened when I was taking my pilates mat training course. After we were taught the roll up we were instructed to pair up and teach each other the movement for practice. The woman I was paired up with decided to wear only one layer of clothing inferiorly. As I taught her the roll up, and as she rolled up, the one layer of clothing wound up rolling down to the midpoint of her posterior protuberance. Talk about a peek-a-boo moment. 8-0
I was at a thorough loss for words. Professionally that would have to be my most embarrassing moment.
I teach water aerobics from deck so I can see all participants well. One thing I ask them to do at times is to jump high as if dunking a basketball.
There are swimsuits made especially for water fitness, and seasoned water aerobics participants own them. Newcomers are often wearing their fashion suits which tend to be cut a lot lower and also yield to the chlorine more readily.
Well, at one of those occasions, one of my new participants jumped with a great deal of enthusiasm, not realizing that as she jumped up, some of her swimsuit did not jump with her ……. northern exposure.
I can only think of one time that I was actually outright embarrassed in a gym…
I was working out at a local gym not too long ago, and I noticed a young man who couldn’t have been older than myself doing a certain exercise that women normally do, meaning men don’t usually think to do this particular exercise. I don’t want to get too specific with this because you never know when this person might come across this conversation online… Anyway, I noticed that his form was pretty out of whack. There was no one else in the gym at the time, and I didn’t want to see him hurt himself while I was there. I went over to him and asked him if he wanted a tip or two on how to get the best out of this particular exercise. He said sure. I showed him the proper form for the exercise and then explained it as I was demonstrating it. I didn’t think anything of it at the time, I was just offering a fitness tip to a fellow gym member.
As this gentleman was leaving, he said “thanks, I’m usually in here about the same time everyday.” Then he smiled at me with this weird… smile. Now… I don’t have a judgmental bone in my body, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t know when a smile is more than a smile. From the way he said it and the way he smiled at me, it was blatantly obvious that he was coming onto me.
It left me with an uncomfortable feeling, and as he walked out the door, it hit me what had just transpired. I was embarrassed that this young man’s.. situation… hadn’t been obvious to me before then. It wouldn’t have kept me from giving him a tip on form, but it would have at least prepared me for what he said and how he said it as he was leaving the gym. Haha.
