Hi. I have been approached from a large private school to submit a tender to provide a variety of fitness classes (Pilates, barre, Aqua fitness, Piloxing, stretching) to their students before and after school. It could be up to 10 classes per week. I have absolutely no idea what to charge. It takes 30min to drive there.i was also considering giving them 2 health and nutrition goal setting workshops per term as an extra as I am also a Health & Nutrition Coach.
Has anyone else provided classes to schools and if so what on earth do you charge. Thanks for your help.
Would you want to teach at a place that is going to be a 1/2 hour drive away? If you are doing a class before and a class after school, that’s 2 hours in your car every day. Possibly more than that, if traffic is unpredictable and you don’t want to be late. That would be a huge consideration for me. Most places that purchase our services don’t care about our commute.
I’ve taught at corporate settings but not at a private school. Generally, I charge about 50% more per hour than my group-ex rate at a gym, since I’ve been a contractor and not an employee at those places. If they don’t already have the equipment that you need, you might want to propose a quarterly or annual equipment budget as well.
Hello Suzanne Cooley,
I charge my personal training rate per class, not per participant. I used to charge a mileage rate; but, too many people tried to bargain; therefore, I charge a flat fee for training.
Don’t fear the travel, it may work in your favor to gain more clients closer to your location.

It’s funny how different ideas can be on things. All of the places I teach, with the exception of one, are within 2 miles and 10 minutes of my house. The extra place, I drive 1/2 hour each way, but it is only once a week and it’s a stone’s throw from a friend’s house so we do lunch every Tuesday after class. If not for that social connection, there’d be no way I’d drive 1/2 hour to teach a class.
But if I lived in Los Angeles or Phoenix, I’d be grateful for a 30 minute commute!
We all have a strike price for what’s “worth it” for us, and it’s not just money. 🙂
I think every school should have fitness classes so that students can actively relax and develop. I also want to develop in the field of education, for this, I want to recommend you “apa citation generator” at https://papersowl.com/apa-citation-generator – is an excellent generator that will save you time, I hope this will help you.
