Hi Don,
I am a water aerobics instructor. All the guys in my class wear swim trunks with elastic AND drawstring. Whatever stays in place when you move, jump and bounce. While you will probably be surrounded by ladies, all that will be visible of you are head and shoulders.
I hope you will enjoy the classes.

I found some GREAT water fitness clothes called waterwarmups. The owner, sally, is helpful and takes the time to make sure you get the correct fit for your body.. jackts, shorts, pants, gear, etc..... Best quality I've found anywhere online at waterwarmups..

Want to say thanks to all of those who responded to my question.
I have been in aquabics for about a year now and the results are super.
Our classes are about half male so guys should not feel shy about joining. The two instructors mix in some boot camp style exercises for the pool, running in the water and some exercises even drawn from synchronized swimming. In some cases we partner up for the exercises.
I have burned off so much fat that I now need a smaller belt as my original one was making me too buoyant in the water.
The instructors encourage the males to wear form fitting swimming costumes as the shorts and trunks bag up and fill up with water and make movement awkward. I were my speedo brief or jammer and sometimes a rashtop if the pool is cool.
After the class I also take time to swim lengths and do some stretching on the pool deck.
Guys should give it a try. It is not fem at all and a 55 minute workout is great.

Good for you, I know you will enjoy your classes.
I would go with what is comfortable (mentally and physically) and acceptable for public activity.
Have fun and take care,

Well the fellows in my aquafit often do wear form fitting bathing costume like speedos because they often want to swim laps before or after the session. You might consider the longer jammer style costume that runs from the waist to just above the knee. This is the same style my son wears on his swimming team.
Also the fellows often add a rashtop as our pool can be slightly on the cooler side. The rashtops help some fellows overcome modesty issues when they wear the small bathing costumes.
One suggestion I have is that you get the right size belt. My husband is a good swimmer but is a sinker and finds floating a problem so get a belt that gives you the appropriate buoyancy in the water.

I strongly recommend a swim brief for water aerobics as this will provide you with more freedom and flexibility. If you are feeling shy, try a fuller-cut brief or a square leg suit. Once you are feeling more comfortable, try a European cut like the Speedo Solar 1" brief. This will offer you more movement and proper coverage. I tend to rotate back and forth between these and other styles. I understand women wear full-cut conservative one-piece swimsuits, so your swim brief will be the perfect companion.

Wear the kind of the bathing suit you feel most confident in. Your might want to included a rash top if you are little shy about being in the pool with other swimmers. My husband wears one when we go to the beach and pool. Keeps him warm in colder waters and also keeps the sun off him. They are generally form fitting and look great on the guys. Also find out if the pool has rules for swimming caps as you might have to wear one.

This is going to sound weird last year I lost a bet with my wife ( yes I'm a guy ) and had to attend the next class in a womans one pece swimsuit. Let me tell you O.M.G. the feel of the one pece swimsuit was AMAZING!!! Just one look And my wife said, Half jokeing " Thats it from now on that's the only type of swimsuit I want to see you in " I now have 8 one pece swimsuits, of different colors and make. Swim Outle.com has a Large selection. As far as the class it went better than I thought it would. My wife and I did get some weird looks. But 2 of the women in the class had told my wife.
" You Have To Tell Me How You Got Your Man
To Wear a Womans Swimsuit." Then said that
They Loved the way the Swimsuit look on me. And that there going to try to get there men to try on a womans one pece swimsuit.
