What strategies do you have to help your New Year’s clients keep coming back?
Once 2019 picks up and you begin taking the steps towards reaching that New Year’s resolution, it’s important to track your progress along the way. By writing down your status every time, you’re getting a holistic idea of whether you’re making progress or not. And a logbook can be a great tool for this. Andrea Busby, associate director of UChicago Medicine’s Chicago Weight Program, explains: “Whatever component of your health is more important to you, start keeping a record of it. You can’t make any changes to health behaviour until you know exactly what the baseline is.”

A great way to keep New Year’s clients coming back is to make them feel like they are a part of your gyms community from the beginning. There is such a negative connotation that comes along with starting your fitness journey around the New Year so anything that will make a client feel like they are welcome will help to put them at ease and feel comfortable in your facility. You can do this through really simple gestures – remembering their names, reaching out to them to see how they are doing, making sure staff is interacting with them, and even encouraging your existing clients to say hello.
There are also some great articles out there with retention tips. Here are a couple that I have found really useful:

I also do small give-aways based on attendance and activity outside the gym. For example, I have one coming up where people will get points for being active, going towards a raffle for some group sessions with me. More details after I launch the promotion, but it’s not public yet.
In past years, we did attendance contests and gave away a one-hour massage, two one-hour training sessions, and a free suntan. That went OK for the gym. The one I’m doing is targeted more directly towards people attending my classes, tracking their success, and strengthening their bond with me as their trainer.
Hello Lawrence with Gym Insight,
I have programs that progress to keep them motivated. I also do mini consults at all visits to keep them on track. I do not like to force things on people; I let them come to me in their own time. I make sure to set a good example at all times.
Thank you,
Natalie aka NAPS 2 B Fit.
