What steps must a trainer take to receive payment through an HSA from a client?

A client asked if she could use her HSA account to pay me for sessions. Her doctor can give a written note to advise her to hire a personal trainer. (she is obese, pre-diabetic, has high cholesterol and serious muscle imbalances).

It is my understanding that as of now, no insurance provider is covering personal training. If anyone finds an insurer that is covering our services, I would greatly appreciate the heads up.

Hello Katrina Felix,
I was also asked to do the same thing. It requires more work and fees on my end. You will want to look into the insurance providers you and the client work with, for requirements. This sounds like a great idea and I hope it works for you both. Please let me know what you decide and how it works out.
