What sort of job are they advertising?
HI,
I am a new PT. I have been working as a sole trader in group fitness for three years and two months ago I got my PT certificate. I am still a sole trader but I would like to gain some experience as PT in a gy, so I have been applying for jobs.
I eventually have an interview next week. The job description said they were looking for a PT for the gym and that they would offer three days trianing on their policies and stuff. SO I assumed They were looking for an employee.
However, when I talked to the manager in teh phone, he mention ” you see what you think of our health club and then you can bring your clients”. SO now I am confused: are they looking for a contractor or an employee? Is there anything in between? Like gym floor hours and then bringing my own clients also?
Thanks!
Hi Sara,
I would just talk to them and see what it is.
Be mindful that they are not having your best interest at heart. Some clubs are trying to get the best of both worlds by having trainers who can train their clients but may be required to work so many hours per week on the floor for little money. This is for the ‘training privileges’.
On the other hand, it can be difficult for a trainer to find a place where you can be an independent contractor.
Just ask, listen and do the math.
